AMI Me Gustaría Ser Alguien

December 7, 2011 by latinoleadership

Nothing works better than having experienced caring adults supporting our youth, ages 6 to 18 early in their academic years. AMI Me Gustaría Ser Alguien will boost academic achievement by identifying mentors and internships opportunities in corporate America. These relationships will augment an academic curriculum that prepares and motivates students for higher education.

Through economic and community development, Latino Leadership works to decrease the wealth gap that exists for Latinos in the United States. Latino Leadership has developed partnerships with the following organizations to provide tangible programs and services related to economic and community development:

Family Enrichment Center

December 7, 2011 by latinoleadership

As the backbone of the family nucleus, the Family Enrichment Center combines tangible assets and resources, as well as online services, to help families resolve their social service needs.

• A computer lab open to help job seekers search for employment, prepare résumés, for students to complete homework assignments, for entrepreneurs to research business opportunities or for seniors to keep in touch with relatives.

• Culturally sensitive service referral center to prevent people from wandering around, bouncing from agency to agency to find solutions for their personal issues.

• Clearinghouse for newcomers to help make the acculturation process easier.

Earned Income Tax Credit

December 6, 2011 by latinoleadership

According to the IRS, each year millions of eligible workers do not claim their credits, missing out on millions of dollars they earned.  In 2011, over 27 million eligible families and individuals claimed Earned Income Credits worth $59.7 billion.  Even if workers don’t earn enough to owe income tax (although they pay federal excise and payroll taxes, as well as state and local taxes), they can qualify for these tax credits, but may not realize it. Now is the time to claim your money!
